Thanksgiving in Waikiki

We’ve been looking at getting off the rock and spending time in a city for a while now. We looked at some mainland options in California and also Las Vegas and these would have been cool because we could have flown Ashley there to meet us.  Then I discovered that we could fly to Australia for less than it would cost to fly to the mainland! Alas it was not in the cards for now in terms of the amount of time we’d want to stay and the cost of that stay. So… We’re off to Waikiki for Thanksgiving week. I’m very excited to make the long trip (45 minutes). We’ll do Sydney another time soon.

I once had a 17.5 hour non-stop flight from Newark to Hong Kong. It was economy class, but not so bad, since it was the inaugural flight and sparsely booked. I’ve never flown island to island, except for a mainland flight that went SFO -LIH – KOA, so I don’t know about cabin classes inter-island,but what is the reason for first class from KOA – HNL, given the flight time and so forth?

      I’m a spoiled bitch? LOL.

Actually we are using miles and first class was the same price as coach. Considering the perks, free baggage and lounge access so it made sense to do it.

I know what you mean about those long international flights. I hate them. Of course as many as I have done I only did one in coach! I did it so I could bring Lynn with me so it was worth it ;)

Jealous! We spent Thanksgiving the year before last with Damien’s cousin and wife In Kane’ohe which is north of Honolulu on the other side of the Koolaus. It was nice to sit on the lanai after a big turkey dinner and enjoy a few glasses of wine and the warm sun knowing it was snowing back in SLC. :) Are you planning on just staying in Waikiki, or will you be renting a car so you can explore the rest of the island?
